1949 pan head springer
A 1949 Harley-Davidson Panhead with a factory Springer front end was a rare transitional model. Estimated only 486 units produced that year, so in the Harley world this is quite a treasure.
Chasis
It pairs the new-for-1948 overhead-valve Panhead engine and "wishbone" frame with the rigid (hardtail) rear end, making it one of the final classic rigid/Springer configurations before hydraulic front suspensions took over entirely.
springer front end
1949 marked the introduction of Harley-Davidson's hydraulic telescopic front fork (the Hydra-Glide), which replaced the Springer fork as standard equipment for solo machines.
Harley-Davidson still offered the old-style Springer front end in 1949 primarily as a factory recommendation for bikes destined for sidecar or package truck use, though solo buyers could still request it.
